I'll admit, I am unreasonably excited about this week. We all are. I think the emotional build-up to this day has been greater for everyone than for any other day of the year, including Christmas, birthdays, and the last day of school. Ski season is officially here.

Though we went last week for a few quick laps on the bunny hill, and to establish our locker at the resort, this was the first weekend that significant portions of the mountain were open. Energy was high, music was blasting, and snow was falling. It couldn't have been better. Boot to knee deep powder, all day long, for two days in a row.

The days of road trips are here. Of hotel stays and movie nights and warm chili and warm drinks and lunch at the car and pizza in bed. The pure ecstasy of getting in the flow- of letting your body react quicker than your mind- of doing hard or scary things, and then looking back at your tracks just to prove to yourself that it really happened. The days of bitter disappointment- of hard falls and numbing cold and frustrating injury. All along the way we will have petty arguments while at the same time being each other's biggest cheerleaders. We will laugh and encourage and cry and scream and try again and celebrate and just take a few moments to be in the moment. These days are all ahead of us. And it all starts here.

Let the games begin.

Ev continued to wear her goggles in the lodge for a long time while eating lunch. Why? "They are frozen to my face."

I'll try to limit the lift photos this year. I know they all look the same. It's just such a good opportunity to bring out the camera though!

It was fitting that on our first day out we got to come back to a chili cookoff at our church. Rach actually made a chili that simmered in a crock pot the whole time we were out, and she ended up winning first prize!

Helmet hair!

Jack wasn't too into the chili. But he did sample sixteen different kinds of macaroni and cheese. I am afraid that our kids' eyes have been opened and that Kraft Insta-Mac will never again be good enough for them.

A little out of order, but this is what Lindsey looked like when I went to wake her up on the first morning. She had gotten completely ready the night before and fallen asleep in her snow clothes. All of Lindsey's teachers and friends tell us how passionate she is about skiing. I guess they weren't kidding.

"Got any Revelstokes?"
"Go fish. Do you have any Mission Ridges?"
"Here you are. Do you have any Jackson Holes?"
...
We stayed the night at the Wallace house. We have a lot of games up there, but playing with our past ski passes seems to be a favorite.

Jackson is off to a good start

Base layers? Whatever.

A little change of scenery here. We had my work party at an indoor golf place. So much fun with some of my favorite people.

Have a good week!
